Birthed by candlelight in a crowded Amsterdam kitchen, OFF STAGE began as a small community of friends and acquaintances with a common and deep-rooted desire to foster an artistic community that embraced all who dared to share their creative work.

This small group outgrew the kitchen, and the artists and audience called for a widening of the familiar circle to the larger creative community. And yet, we wanted to stay true to our origins -- the kitchen, the candles, and the camaraderie so valued by our original members.

While staying true to these roots, we expanded our purpose to include the explicit embrace of original creative performances. We give new and upcoming artists a stage on which to perform, encircled within an ever open, ever hungry community that finds beauty in the shadows and rough edges of alternative spaces.
